Alcohol Monitoring

Continuous Alcohol Monitoring (CAM) technology detects the presence of alcohol in an individual’s perspiration. This technology comes in the form of an ankle bracelet that is continuously worn by an individual to demonstrate their ability to abstain from alcohol consumption over a sustained period. Rehab Support uses Alcohol Monitoring System’s “SCRAMx” bracelet, as it is the pioneer and industry leader in CAM technology. SCRAM data has been upheld in court proceedings nationwide in over 1,700 courts and is the most comprehensive and third party-validated CAM technology in the country.

The SCRAMx ankle bracelet is attached to the SCRAMX being applied to ankle
offender with a durable and tamper-proof strap. It is worn 24/7 by an individual for the duration of his or her term of use, which is typically 90-120 days in court-ordered cases. Every half hour, the bracelet captures transdermal alcohol readings by sampling the insensible perspiration collected from the air above the skin. The bracelet stores the data and, at pre-determined intervals, transmits it via radio-frequency (RF) signal to an assigned base station which is provided to the client at the time of bracelet installation.

SCRAMx has been worn by over 170,000 individuals across the country as a means for proving or disproving alcohol consumption in cases where there is alleged alcohol abuse. This data is a revolutionary component in demonstrating abstinence to a court or other concerned individuals. CAM data has been used as scientifically-verified proof of abstinence or lack thereof in the following cases:

  • mitigating evidence in DWI cases
  • pretrial release
  • restoration of North Carolina driver’s license in some cases
  • child custody/child visitation rights

Accountability is a crucial aspect of an individual’s course of addiction treatment. Continuous Alcohol Monitoring now offers treatment professionals and individuals going through recovery the ability to verify their abstinence from alcohol through data-driven results. CAM transdermally monitors an individual’s body every 30 minutes for alcohol consumption.

Using CAM, an individual can prove to any concerned party that they are accountable for their sobriety. In conjunction with therapy, treatment professionals can use CAM to ensure their clients are maintaining their sobriety from alcohol and give them a much stronger chance of maintaining lasting abstinence. Rehab Support is experienced in implementing CAM in recovery-oriented settings. Cathy, I want to thank you and others at Rehab Support for your help while I was wearing the Scram bracelet. Your prompt response to any problems or questions I had was greatly appreciated. Also, it was a comfort to have someone nice to talk to when I called. Thanks again for your help.

P.S. I had great visit with my son!

Best Wishes,

“SCRAM has changed my life so much by being able to see how alcohol can affect your life. It has taught me a great responsibility in life in general. Such as don’t drink and drive and you can also see how you act when you are intoxicated. Thank you for the opportunity to be on SCRAM. I have learned a lot thanks to you guys.”

"Every thought was about drinking, my first thought in the morning was about drinking and I planned everything around the booze... the thought of getting beer, drinking it and getting away with it. The bracelet took the wondering and obsession out of it.   It controls what you cannot control yourself.  I just got a job, my kids don't see me passed out, my house is cleaner, we have more money and I spend more time with the kids. My skin and hair are softer!  The bracelet forced me to do what I should have been doing all along and I am actually proud of myself.   I am totally for this thing; it could really help a lot of people.  I could have gotten 30 days in jail and I would have been away from my kids. I don't know if I would have ever put it down without the bracelet.  I have not thought of it as a punishment but as my savior."

“Being monitored on CAM gave me the chance to analyze myself without alcohol. I looked at my former bad choices because of drinking. I haven’t had a drink since May and I have a renewed relationship with my family. My wife is much happier!”

“I preferred the bracelet over the “blow & go” and obviously over jail. It allowed me to continue my life and show the powers that be I was doing what I was supposed to doing.”
