Technologies to Enhance Addiction Recovery and Mental Health Services

Organizations who support cAM use include:

  • NC MADD: Endorses 2007 CAM legislation formally recognizing CAM technology for use with DWI offenses. MADD-NC recognizes Rehab Support with its 2008 NC state Award of Appreciation.

  • NC Conference of District Attorneys: November 2008, formally endorses CAM technology use with all forms of alcohol related crime. Incorporates CAM into its “DWI Boot Camp” training for Assistant District Attorneys and State Troopers. Includes CAM updates in its newsletters to prosecutors across NC.

  • NC Sheriff’s Association: Endorses CAM legislation in 2009 and in 2011.

  • National Center for State Courts: Publishes CAM recidivism study in Court Review (Vol. 4/2009) using 114 NC Rehab Support clients’ data. Findings include “electronic monitoring is as effective as incarceration, and less expensive.” “SCRAM works best for repeat offenders,.. SCRAM is effective when worn,.. SCRAM needs to be worn for at least 90 days,.. SCRAM should be used in combination with treatment...”

  • National Drug Treatment Court Association: 2010 the board publicly declares that though it does not support any specific vendor or technology, they support the use of CAM for DWI Court and Drug Court participants.

Cathy, I want to thank you and others at Rehab Support for your help while I was wearing the Scram bracelet. Your prompt response to any problems or questions I had was greatly appreciated. Also, it was a comfort to have someone nice to talk to when I called. Thanks again for your help.

P.S. I had great visit with my son!

Best Wishes,
J.B.

“SCRAM has changed my life so much by being able to see how alcohol can affect your life. It has taught me a great responsibility in life in general. Such as don’t drink and drive and you can also see how you act when you are intoxicated. Thank you for the opportunity to be on SCRAM. I have learned a lot thanks to you guys.”

"Every thought was about drinking, my first thought in the morning was about drinking and I planned everything around the booze... the thought of getting beer, drinking it and getting away with it. The bracelet took the wondering and obsession out of it.   It controls what you cannot control yourself.  I just got a job, my kids don't see me passed out, my house is cleaner, we have more money and I spend more time with the kids. My skin and hair are softer!  The bracelet forced me to do what I should have been doing all along and I am actually proud of myself.   I am totally for this thing; it could really help a lot of people.  I could have gotten 30 days in jail and I would have been away from my kids. I don't know if I would have ever put it down without the bracelet.  I have not thought of it as a punishment but as my savior."

“Being monitored on CAM gave me the chance to analyze myself without alcohol. I looked at my former bad choices because of drinking. I haven’t had a drink since May and I have a renewed relationship with my family. My wife is much happier!”

“I preferred the bracelet over the “blow & go” and obviously over jail. It allowed me to continue my life and show the powers that be I was doing what I was supposed to doing.”
